What happened to my radio?!?
Before having children listening to music while driving could be relaxing or invigorating, depending on the selection. I listen to just about every type of music, so I might throw on an adult contemporary channel to wind down after an exhausting day or if I’m headed out to play poker I might pop in an Eminem CD to get pumped up. All depends on my mood.
Recently, however, I noticed that I don’t have any control over what comes out of the speakers in my truck. It’s been hijacked, mostly by a little glitter blasted 6 year old that insists we listen to the Sofia the First soundtrack on eternal repeat. I love hearing her sing and enjoy seeing a smile on her face, but I think I’m on the verge of a complete mental breakdown. Sometimes, as Blue Ribbon Bunny plays for the 978th time, I imagine hurtling down little animated streets in my truck aiming for every little bouncing bastard I can swerve into to.
It’s bad! Really bad! I found myself rocking out the other day on the way to the bank (with the windows down) to that Sofia soundtrack and the children WERE NOT WITH ME. AHHHHH!!! I can only imagine what people were thinking. I quickly found some Ozzy and cranked up the volume so high that it could be likened to sticking my head IN the speaker at the front of the stage for a concert. I don’t know if it made me feel better or just vibrated every last working brain cell from my head, but it helped.
I don’t know when the radio fairy will visit me and bless the dial to play what I want to hear, but it can’t come soon enough!! I think the kids know this, as now they smile at me, with an evil little smile, every time they convince me to tune the radio to what they want.
What do your kids insist you listen to? What song drives you past the point of needing a drink or strong sedative??
